Itinerary | 7 days in Corsica & Sardinia

If you are visiting the French Riviera and island-hopping is your thing, Corsica and Sardinia are a must-do. Separated by the Bonifacio, the islands are only 11 km (6.8 miles) apart, sitting off the Italian and French coasts. Both possess sparkling Mediterranean waters, colorful histories, outdoor adventures, and vibrant towns, but they also offer two distinct holiday experiences: Corsica being French and Sardinia being Italian. Corsica is known as the ‘Island of Beauty’ due to its dramatic coastline, lush mountains, and plunging cliffs. Visit for breathtaking natural beauty, hilltop villages, boutiques, and glitzy yacht-filled harbors with some of the best diving and snorkeling in the Med. Travel down to Sardinia, which is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean to see its glistening beaches, ancient history, eccentric festivals, incredible hikes and glamorous seaside resorts.

Day 1 - Ajaccio

Commanding a lovely sweep of the bay, the handsome city of Ajaccio is awe-inspiring from the very first moment you sail in. The pastel-toned, cafe-filled marina is the ideal place to start your day with delectable pastry before heading to the trendy waterfront promenade that buzzes with beachgoers all day long. For a slice of history, explore the cobbled streets of the Old Town or make a trip to the Maison Bonaparte museum. Once the sun starts to set, you can take your pick from an evening of fresh seafood by the water or some after-hours fun in one of the many nearby bars and clubs.

Day 2 - Roccapina

Roccapina is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, and keen explorers alike. After anchoring in the seemingly untouched waters of the bay, the white pillowy sands rarely host more than just a few beachgoers at a time, making it the ideal place to enjoy the landscape without interruption. But no trip to Roccapina is complete without tackling the Roccapina Belvedere walk. As well as offering the opportunity to enjoy the countryside, you’ll also spot two lion and elephant-shaped rocks on your way up to the viewpoint. Here, you’ll have extended views of the coastline in both directions. After building up a sweat, you’ll be ready to head to dine al fresco at Restaurant La ferme de minora, a local farm offering unique lunch experiences.

Day 3 - Bonifacio

It's often said that Bonifacio in Corsica is a jewel hidden in plain sight. The area boasts rugged limestone cliffs that descend into the mesmerizing turquoise waters. The bustling marina fills with some of the world's most luxurious yachts, lively bars, and local restaurants. To experience one of the most picturesque beaches, sail to Plage du Petit Sperone, a small bay with calm, turquoise waters. The nearby island of Cavallo, where you can spend a leisurely day at the beach. For a magical view of the coast you can scale the 187 steps of the King of Aragon Staircase. Indulging in some delectable regional cuisine at one of the town's many restaurants is a must.

Day 4 - La Maddalena (Sardinia)

Located in the north of Sardinia, the Maddalena Islands are the epitome of a private paradise. These seven rocky islands are all sparsely inhabited or completely uninhabited, and they are all known for their powdery sand beaches, protected coves, and beautiful natural scenery. The most developed of the islands is La Maddalena, which offers a city with hotels, restaurants, shops, and other services at the primary ferry port. For something a little more rustic, Budelli sees far fewer crowds and is home to a pink sand beach, Spiaggia Rosa, where snorkelers can get up close and personal with marine life. Spargi is the most isolated and least frequented island, making it perfect for those wanting to enjoy some time of solitude.

Day 5 - Porto Cervo

Once you see the local beaches, you’ll soon understand why Porto Cervo is one of the most renowned beach resort towns in Italy. As well as its incredible coastline, this stunning Sardinian village is known for its abundance of local wine and year-round sunshine. You can spend your days shopping at the Promenade du Port, play a round of golf at the top-class Pevero Golf Club, indulge in wine tasting, and tempt your palate with an array of high-end dining options, including locally caught and prepared seafood. While the town is a place to perch marine-side with a cocktail in hand during the day, it also boasts a sophisticated nightlife scene that will see you return home with plentiful life-long memories.

Day 6 - Porto Rotondo

Everything about Porto Rotondo is simply postcard-perfect: the pastel buildings, the turquoise waters, the reddish rocks, and the green foliage on the hills. See the town from every angle by sailing between the stunning beaches and swimming coves, like Spiaggia dei Sassi and Punta Asfodelo. On land, you can get even more in touch with nature by taking some time out to fish, hike, or mountain bike your way across the region. The Parco Naturale Capo Figari is a particularly popular location, with people traveling from near and far to see the rock cliffs and marine observatory up close. A trip to Olbia is a must for those wanting to celebrate the night away, while the charming Piazzetta San Marco is ideal for those looking for something a little more slow-paced.

Day 7 - Olbia

Aptly translating to “happiness”, Olbia is refreshingly authentic and overflowing with natural beauty. Look beyond the industrial outskirts that first greet you as you sail into the marina, and you’ll find a mesmerizing city with a historic center brimming with boutiques, wine bars, and cafe-lined piazzas. Right near the main port, you’ll find the Museo Archeologico, a contemporary museum that showcases everything from Roman amulets and pottery to Nuragic finds. Whether you spend your day diving into the past, snorkeling at the Spiaggia Pittulongu dock, or sipping wine at the local-filled Vino Veritas, there’s no better way to end the day than with a dinner at the Michelin-starred L’Essenza Bistrot.
